DevRev in depth

DevRev attacks a real and expensive problem: support runs in Zendesk, engineering runs in Jira, and the link between them is a human copying text between two systems. Bugs get reported twice, fixes ship without anyone telling the customer, and nobody can say which product area generates the most tickets.

So DevRev puts both in one system. A support ticket becomes an engineering work item with the customer attached, and when the fix ships the link back to the affected customers still exists.

It was founded by Dheeraj Pandey, previously co-founder and CEO of Nutanix, and raised substantially on that track record. It is ambitious in scope, which is both the appeal and the risk — you are consolidating two functions onto one vendor.

Support-to-engineering linkage

The reason to buy. A ticket and the bug it revealed are the same object, so customer impact is visible during prioritisation and closing the loop after a fix is automatic rather than a chore someone forgets.

Product analytics from support volume

Which features generate tickets, and what that costs. Most companies cannot answer this because the data sits in two tools with no shared key.

AI agents

Both customer-facing and internal search across support and engineering context. The internal search is arguably the more useful half — engineers finding whether a bug is already known.

    Create the workspace and add seats

    Seat count is what you are billed on, so confirm who genuinely needs a full agent licence versus a viewer.

    Email forwarding or domain records, chat widget, social accounts. DNS changes may take hours to propagate.

    The long part. Expect the importer to bring tickets across cleanly and your automations not at all.

    Rules rarely port between platforms. Budget time to rewrite them rather than translate them.

    Check whether AI is included in your tier or a separate line item — in this category it is frequently the latter.

The step that takes longer than they imply. Migration. Moving ticket history, macros and routing rules from an existing help desk is the bulk of the work and no vendor's importer handles all of it.

What the AI actually does

Every platform here says “AI agent”. It covers a bot that reads your help centre and a system that can refund a customer. This is which one you are buying.

Acts on your systems

The product is now called Computer, and its agents act through Skills built on snap-ins.

DevRev publishes its entire meter — how many credits an answer, an action and a support conversation cost — and never says what a credit is worth.

  • Agents are assembled in Agent Studio from Skills, and the page is specific about what they touch: “execute complex workflows, create tickets, resolve repetitive questions, update CRM records”
  • Human approval is something you switch on rather than something you switch off: “If the stakes are high, require human approval before your agent takes action”
  • The support meter is a session rather than a resolution: twenty credits for a “Full end-to-end customer support agent session within 24 hours”, against ten for an answer and four for an action
  • Custom reach has published ceilings — fifteen functions per dev org, five per snap-in version, and automations are skipped entirely on any event payload over 256KB

Product-led software companies

Where support tickets are product signal and the feedback loop between the two is currently manual.

Teams where support and engineering already overlap

If your engineers read tickets, one system removes real friction rather than adding a tool.

Companies wanting support data in prioritisation

Knowing which features cost you support volume changes roadmap decisions, and most teams cannot measure it.

Who should look elsewhere. Consumer support at volume, and any team where engineering will not move off Jira or Linear. Half the value depends on both sides adopting it, and a support-only deployment is an expensive way to buy a mediocre help desk. Also wrong for non-technical support entirely.

What Works

  • Solves a genuine and under-served problem.
  • Support-to-engineering linkage is not something a Zendesk-Jira integration replicates.
  • Publishes its consumption meter in full, and publishes hard platform quotas most vendors keep to themselves.

What Does Not

  • Requires engineering to change tools, which is the hard part organisationally.
  • Broad scope means it is not best-in-class at either half.
  • Younger and smaller than the incumbents on both sides.

DevRev pricing

DevRev used to publish per-seat pricing. It no longer does. The product is now sold as Computer on three plans — Mini free, Pro and Max both reading Contact us — and the meter is consumption-based credits.

The cost comparison is not against a help desk alone. If DevRev replaces Zendesk plus Jira for the relevant teams, compare the combined figure — that is the only fair reading, and it is usually where the case is made.

It also carries a switching cost most alternatives do not: you are asking engineering to change issue tracker, which is a bigger organisational conversation than changing help desk.

Who we would tell to buy this, and who we would not.

DevRev is worth serious evaluation if you are a product-led software company whose support and engineering functions already talk to each other, and you can get engineering to move. The support-to-engineering link is a real problem that integrations do not actually solve, and the product analytics it enables are genuinely hard to get otherwise. The risk is scope: it is competing with Zendesk on one side and Jira on the other, and it is not the strongest tool on either. If engineering will not move, do not buy it — half the value is on their side of the line.
