Help Scout Pricing 2026: $25 a Seat, and What Changed
It used to bill by contact with unlimited agents — the only platform here whose cost did not move with headcount. That property is gone, and it was the reason most people chose it.
Until this year Help Scout did something no other platform in this directory did. It billed by the number of contacts you supported, with unlimited agents on every tier, so hiring a support person cost nothing and your bill tracked your customers instead of your headcount.
That was a genuinely unusual shape and for a certain kind of team — many agents, few customers, high-touch B2B — it made Help Scout the cheapest serious option by a wide margin.
It is now $25, $45 or $75 per user per month. The unlimited agents are gone, the contact billing is gone, and the reason a lot of teams chose it went with them.
What we recorded, and when
| Read | Model | Prices |
|---|---|---|
| 17 April 2026 | By contact volume, unlimited agents | Standard $55/mo, Plus $83/mo |
| 5 August 2026 | Per user, capped user counts | Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75 per user |
| 10 August 2026 | Per user, confirmed | Unchanged, plus a ten-seat minimum on Pro |
We are not claiming to have caught the change on the day it happened — the April and August reads are simply the two dates we hold. The point of dating every figure is that a change like this is visible at all. None of the pages currently ranking for this query mentions it, because a page with no date cannot show that anything moved.
Four meters now run at once
- Seats — $25, $45 or $75 per user per month, with user ceilings of 25 on Standard and 50 on Plus.
- AI Answers — $0.75 per resolution, on every paid tier, with a three-month free trial for new accounts.
- Extra inboxes — $10 a month annually, or $12 monthly. Standard includes 2, Plus 5, Pro 10.
- Extra Docs sites — $20 a month annually, or $24 monthly. Standard includes 2, Plus 3, Pro 5.
The inbox and Docs meters are small individually and easy to miss when comparing headline rates. A team running five brands on Standard adds $30 a month in inboxes before anyone has answered anything.
The ten-seat minimum is the number to check
Pro is $75 per user with unlimited users and a stated minimum of ten. That is a floor of $750 a month whether you have ten people or six.
Standard caps at 25 users and Plus at 50, so a team growing past 50 has no route except Pro and its floor. For a 30-person team on Plus at $45, the jump to Pro is from $1,350 to $2,250 — and the reason to make it is the user ceiling rather than any feature you asked for.
Who this repricing actually hurts
Not new buyers. At $25 a seat Help Scout is competitively priced against Hiver at $25 and Freshdesk at $19, and it is a better product than either of those numbers suggests.
It hurts the team that chose it specifically because agents were free. A twenty-person support team with a modest contact base was paying $83 a month under the old model. The same team on Plus is now $900. That is not a price rise, it is a different product with the same name, and the property they were buying no longer exists.
If that is you, the question is not whether Help Scout is good. It is whether the thing you optimised for is available anywhere else.
Where unlimited agents still exist
Almost nowhere, which is worth knowing before you spend a month looking.
| Platform | What it bills | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Gorgias | Tickets, tiered with overages | Unlimited on every tier, never priced per agent |
| Help Scout, until 2026 | Contacts | Was unlimited — no longer |
| HappyFox | Per agent, $24 to $99 | Its unlimited-agent plan is no longer costed on the page |
| Everyone else in this directory | Seats or usage | Counted |
So the honest answer for a many-agents-few-customers team is Gorgias, and Gorgias is built for e-commerce rather than B2B — which may not suit you at all. That is the real cost of this change: the shape has almost left the market, not just Help Scout.
What to move to, if you are moving
By what you were actually buying:
- You wanted a simple shared inbox and the price is now fine — stay. At $25 this is a reasonable deal and switching costs weeks.
- You wanted agents not to count — Gorgias, with the caveat that it is an e-commerce product billed per ticket.
- You wanted the cheapest per-seat help desk — Freshdesk at $19, though Freddy AI is a separate $0.49 per session on top.
- You wanted AI included rather than metered — Hiver at $25 bundles AI agents with no usage cap published, and Zoho Desk at $40 includes Zia in the tier.
- You are already paying for AI Answers at $0.75 a resolution — that is above Richpanel at $0.20 and eesel at $0.40, and worth pricing separately from the inbox.
Price all of them at your own volume rather than taking any of those as a recommendation. The crossovers move with team size, and team size is exactly what changed here.
Who wrote the other answers
Page one for Help Scout alternatives on 10 August 2026: Drag, Kayako, My AskAI, Hiver, Front, eesel AI and BlueTweak. Every one sells a competing shared inbox, and two of them — Front and Hiver — are direct substitutes recommending themselves.
None of them mentions the pricing change. Not because they are hiding it, but because you cannot show that something moved unless you wrote down what it was before. That is the whole argument for dating every figure, and it is why what each vendor counts as billable carries a date on every row.
Frequently Asked
How much does Help Scout cost in 2026?
Standard is $25 per user a month for up to 25 users, Plus is $45 for up to 50, and Pro is $75 with unlimited users and a ten-seat minimum — so a $750 floor. There is a free tier for up to five users. On top of seats: AI Answers at $0.75 per resolution on every paid tier, extra inboxes at $10 a month annually, and extra Docs sites at $20.
Did Help Scout change its pricing?
Yes. When we read the pricing page in April 2026 it billed by contact volume with unlimited agents — Standard $55 a month, Plus $83 — which made it the only platform in our directory whose cost did not move with headcount. By our August read it was per user at $25, $45 and $75 with capped user counts. If you chose Help Scout because agents were free, the property you were buying no longer exists.
What is the best Help Scout alternative?
It depends what you were buying. If you wanted agents not to count, Gorgias is the only platform left in our directory with genuinely unlimited seats, though it is an e-commerce product billed per ticket. If you wanted the cheapest per-seat inbox, Freshdesk is $19 with Freddy AI a separate $0.49 per session. If you wanted AI bundled rather than metered, Hiver at $25 includes AI agents with no published usage cap.
Is Help Scout expensive now?
Not for a new buyer — $25 a seat is competitive against Hiver at $25 and Freshdesk at $19. It is expensive for a team that picked it under the old contact-based model: twenty agents with a modest contact base went from about $83 a month to roughly $900. Whether that is expensive depends entirely on which pricing model you signed up under.
Does Help Scout charge extra for AI?
Yes. AI Answers is $0.75 per resolution, billed monthly, available on every paid tier with a three-month free trial for new accounts. That is above Richpanel's $0.20 per conversation and eesel AI's $0.40 per task, and below Fin's $0.99 and Gorgias's $1.50 per automated interaction. Worth pricing as its own line rather than folding it into the seat cost.

I read the fine print. Vendor pricing pages, billing definitions, terms, funding filings and acquisition notices — then I do the arithmetic nobody publishes: what a platform actually costs at your volume, what its headline metric is really counting, and who owns it now. I do not run benchmarks, and no page here pretends otherwise.
